Press Statement
Malema's Visit To Zimbabwe
30 March 2010- Immediate release
Statement as presentet to the media at a press conference in Boysens addressed by the SA External Assembly Chairman, Austin Moyo Snr.
MDC have immeasurable respect and admiration for ANC. Just like ANC we are inclined to the poor masses and workers. We are controlled by the inclusive instinct of running the government; just the same way the ANC is forming alliance with other partners.
There is no doubt that Zimbabweans expect to benefit from Julius Malema’s visit to Harare. The ANCYL President has always come out as a champion of democracy, fearless and standing up for the poor.
This is the very virtue which we expect him to flaunt when he get to Harare.
There is no doubt in the minds of ANC leaders that MDC is the majority party which won elections. It is in that spirit that we expect the ANCYL president to give us an ear.
We might not be necessarily putting on the tag of a liberation movement that successfully fought white oppressors, but defeating black oppression is tantamount to a revolution. We want to point out clearly that we are not in anyway joining Malema’s political nemeses. We want to stay out from South Africa’s internal politics.
We however have the following questions for Mr Malema, which are designed to sensitive him about the genuine situation on the ground. He should not loose the plot, because if he does, we would have failed him as well as a party by not feeding him with genuine data.
First: Our first question to Mr Malema is, are you implying that the majority of the poor masses who shed blood for the country prior to Independence were entirely Zanu PF supporters?
Second: Mr Malema are you aware that the first ever MK military excursion was executed alongside with Zapu liberation forces in Wankie (Hwange), where the Late Cde. Chris Hani dived for cover in the Hwange trenches?
Third: Does Malema understand that there are millions of liberation heroes in the MDC?
Fourth: Is Mr Malema conversant with the fact that Zanu PF and Robert Mugabe lost elections to MDC in 2008?
Fifth: Is Mr Malema saying that ANC does not respect democracy and is willing to ignore the millions of Zimbabweans who sent Zanu PF packing in the corridors of power?
Sixth: Is Mr Malema suggesting that fighting and defeating the black oppression of Zanu PF is not synonymous with a revolution? This is evidenced by over 4 million Zimbabweans that have been displaced to South Africa alone, not to mention another 1 million in Europe, the USA and Australia combined. Coming from a country with just over 12 million people, this displacement is pregnant with meaning!
Lastly, Sir Malema, are you aware of a document entitled, Cries from Goromonzi? Goromonzi is Zanu PF's torture base a few kilometers from Harare.
In conclusion, we would like to advise the revolutionary comrade that there is an inclusive government in Zimbabwe, which is being mediated by South Africa. When the mud water is about to settle, it is not wise for the youthful President to stir it up again with his feet! If he wants to assist to put off the burning fire that is pushing Zimbabweans out of their own country, he must not follow it behind throwing paraffin, but must intercept it from the front.
We wish Malema a peaceful stay in Zimbabwe, but remember to request a copy of a DVD entitled Cries from Goromonzi and we also urge him to do himself a favour by requesting to meet the leadership of the majority party.
